The mining sector has challenges associated with Deep Mining. These challenges are shared with companies in the sector and these challenges can be addressed through research and collaboration, the UDMN is a mechanism to address and overcome these challenges. The UDMN is the nucleus that connects private sector leadership, government funding, and research at all levels to solve challenges associated with Deep Mining.  The UDMN 2.0 is aiming to solve business challenges associated with Excavation Stability, Rock Stress Risk Reduction, Energy Reduction, Underground Productivity, Improved Human Health, Human Machine Interaction and Smart Mining.

The Webinar is designed to answer key questions in regards to how the UDMN 2.0 will work and also how you can be a part of the network.

UDMN Symposium – December 12th, 2017 at Dynamic Earth

The 2nd Annual UDMN Symposium is being held on Thursday, December 12, 2017 in Sudbury, Ontario, for Network Members and invited guests. This is a private event.

The Symposium provides an opportunity for Network Members to share progress being made with their projects, to pitch results to industry leaders, to ask and have questions answered during networking breaks & panel discussions, as well as get important updates on the Network.

1st Annual UDMN Symposium

December 1, 2015 in Sudbury, ON
Network members participated in the 1st annual UDMN Symposium. This event provided members with an invaluable opportunity to engage with all network members; present high level project summaries; network with mining companies; and identify other potential synergies.

An industry led panel was assembled to facilitate discussion on technology trends affecting the mining industry today and on how mines implement new technologies. Panelists included: Zachary Mayer (Manager, Mine Technical Services) at Kidd Operations, A Glencore Company, Steve Runnalls (Manager, Mines Technical Services) at Vale, Ontario Operations, Shayne Wisniewski (General Manager of Mining Projects) at Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations, A Glencore Company, Douglas Morrison (President and CEO) at CEMI and moderated Roger Emdin (Vice President of Projects) at Harte Gold.

UDMN at International Safety and Mines Conference

Bora Ugurgel, Managing Director, showcased the UDMN at the 36th International Conference of Safety in Mines Research Institutes, held in Sudbury Ontario. His paper, “The Ultra-Deep Mining Network – A Collaborative Approach to Mining Innovation and Commercialization”, highlighted the research initiatives being undertaken as part of the UDMN to lever collaborative and dedicated networked solution teams of leading experts in achieving innovations for the global mining industry.

Lecture Series Event – May 20, 2015

Geoff MacDonald, a Tax Incentives Partner with KPMG was at CEMI to share insights into the Scientific Research and Experimental Developments (SR&ED) program. During the session Geoff presented a basic overview of the program, recent changes to eligibility, recent court decision and their potential impact, as well as strategies to minimize risk.
